At Intercon Messaging, we know the oil and gas industry.

Our operations are based in Drayton Valley, Alberta, about an hour’s drive southwest of Edmonton. We are at the heart of the Pembina Oilfield in beautiful Brazeau County and have spent close to two decades working to help meet the needs of the petroleum sector both in Alberta and right across Western Canada. We understand the challenges the industry faces just as we appreciate its contributions to the provincial and national economies.

Building on what we’ve learned over the last 20 years, we have created a selection of services with the specific needs of the oil and gas industry in mind.

Facility Alarm Monitoring

Acting as an outsourced and centralized control centre, monitoring oil and gas assets and lone workers is at the very heart of Intercon Messaging’s business.  It’s something we are happy to do and proud to do well.  If you work in the industry, you will understand the necessity of a responsive alarm monitoring and dispatch service when an asset goes down or a lone worker is unaccounted for.

When an alarm is triggered at your gas facility or oil battery, you need to know about it as quickly as possible. This is where we can step in as part of your team and take the most appropriate dispatch action based on instructions predetermined by you. If it’s something minor, we will call you or your facility operator. And, if it’s something more serious, we can ramp up and support your operations as your emergency dispatch or incident control.

Experienced Dispatch Agents

We have plenty of experience with the petroleum industry, and all of our staff have been given specific training in this area, so you can rest assured that we know what we are doing. When oil and gas activity was at its peak, we were responsible for monitoring more than 1,500 locations across Western Canada. We are proud of our role in supporting the industry and proud of our knowledge and experience in this field.

There’s a good reason why so many companies, both large and small, have chosen to work with us over the years. With the number and variety of clients we serve, we have been able to develop a tremendous amount of expertise and experience doing what we do.

A Cost Effective 24 Hour Control Centre

Because we serve a number of clients in both oil and gas and in other sectors, we can work more effectively and at a lower cost than if a company decided to carry out its own facility monitoring program.  The arithmetic is simple, really. Once you have the right staff in place and have ensured that they are properly trained, and once you have put together the right technology and infrastructure, it’s almost as easy to monitor 100 remote facilities as it is to monitor one or two.

And don’t forget that professional remote facility alarm monitoring does more than prevent safety issues and protect your staff or the public. It can help you limit costly equipment damage and guarantee that you meet or exceed the standards set out by government regulators.

Protecting Your People

Ensuring employee safety is often the number one concern for companies operating in the oil and gas sector. No matter how large or small they are, protecting their people is job one. That’s only right.  But it’s not always as straightforward as it may sound. With employees often working alone and spread out in remote areas, keeping on top of things can present a real challenge. Throw in the problems caused by weather conditions that can range from plus 35 degrees in the summer to minus 35 degrees in the winter, and it becomes harder still.

In order to be sure that everything’s going as it should, it’s necessary to get your employees to check in with someone at regular intervals while they are out on the road. We can arrange to handle those regularly scheduled check ins by phone, text or two-way radio in a way that meets or exceeds the required provincial safety standards. And we will work to do it while keeping any disruption to your employees' workflow or daily routine to an absolute minimum.

Fewer Interruptions With Our I.M. Lone Worker App

If interruptions are a concern, or you would like to take your monitoring a step further, we can offer you an alternative. It’s called the I.M. OK work alone mobile app. This is a cell phone application which tracks the user throughout the day simply by following their cellular signal.  To let us know that everything is fine, your employee simply checks in by engaging the app on a prearranged schedule.  By doing so, he or she lets us know that all is well. They can then continue going about their business without any further interruption from us or anybody else. Using the app is every bit as simple as it sounds, and it’s the very definition of quick and easy. All you have to do is download the app to your cell phone, set it up with us, and you are ready to start using it. There is absolutely no special equipment or expensive software involved. And the I.M. OK app will work with just about any cellular operating system on the market, including both Android and Apple.

Whether they are using the app or the one-on-one check in, if one of your staff misses a scheduled check in, Intercon will take the necessary follow-up action as laid out by your previously determined and agreed-upon instructions.  We know how important it is for you to know that everybody on your team is safe at all times. If you’re working with Intercon Messaging, your employees will never be truly alone.

GPS Monitoring

This is another area where we can help you to increase employee safety. As an added bonus, it can also help you to reduce your costs and to streamline your overall operations.

With today’s technology, GPS monitoring can keep you up to date with where your people are and where they’re heading, no matter how far off the beaten path they may be. GPS uses satellite technology to exactly pinpoint the location of a vehicle. And regardless of whether it’s moving or not, GPS is usually accurate within a few feet.  That means there’s no need to worry about whether or not there’s cellular coverage in the area where your people are working. If you have lost contact with a member of your team, you will be able to quickly determine where he or she is and whether or not they are on the move.  And you’ll know exactly where to send help if you feel it’s necessary.

But that’s not all that GPS has to offer. GPS will be able to give you an accurate breakdown of exactly how far your vehicles have travelled on any given journey or over any given period of time. That helps you to take the guesswork out of scheduling regular maintenance, which in turn helps to keep your repair costs down. And you’ll know how long a vehicle has been at a work site, which will help to take the guesswork out of billing.
