Intercon Messaging Receives National Award

There’s a good reason why we’re proud of our people

Every bit of the success we’ve enjoyed at Intercon Messaging over the years has been down to the diligence and dedication of the people who work here. It’s as simple as this; our staff are at the core of everything we do. They are the heart and soul of our business.  And because we realize just how important they are, we were absolutely delighted to learn that we’ve been named as one of 75 Employee Recommended Workplaces from across Canada for this year.

What exactly does that mean? Well, the Employee Recommended Workplace Award recognizes excellence in achieving a healthy, engaged and productive workforce. That’s something we’ve always worked towards, so we’re very happy to be acknowledged nationally. What makes this award stand out from the crowd is that this is the only one of its kind that’s based entirely on feedback directly from a company’s employees and from nowhere else.

Having a happy and engaged staff is fundamental to Intercon Messaging’s work. It’s part of our identity and we believe it’s one of the reasons we’ve continued to grow and prosper for the last 20 years.

One of our guiding principlesis to treat our people better than we want our people to treat our clients, and, just to be clear, we want out people to treat our clients very well indeed.

In the words of our CEO, Pat Vos,

“As you grow your people, your people grow your business.”

So we understand the importance of helping our employees to reach their full potential. That’s one of the reasons why investing in our employees’ education has always been at the top of our to-do list. We’ve found that it’s a win/win. Right from the beginning we encourage our staff to grow alongside us by developing their knowledge and increasing their skill set. We want our staff to care as much about their work as we do. But we also want them to feel valued while they do it and to enjoy being part of our team. And we know that we can’t expect them to care about our clients if we don’t care about them.

We want our employees to be the best in the business. But we also want them to be happy and fulfilled in their work. We’ve found over the years that those two things go hand in hand.  An employee who feels happy and valued at her work is always going to do a better job than one who doesn’t.

We work hard to create and maintain an emotionally healthy workplace where everyone can feel comfortable. We are proud of our people, proud of the service they offer and proud that they help us to stand out from the crowd.

So, of course, we’re proud to now be able to say that we’re an Employee Recommended Workplace. And we’re hoping this will go further. So far we’ve been named in the top 75 companies in Canada. That’s a group which includes businesses of all sizes operating in just about every sector you can think of. As the next step, the winners in 12 individual categories will be announced March 19 at the Globe and Mail SolvingWorkplaceChallengesSummit, which will be held in Toronto.

The Employee Recommended Workplace award program is organized by Morneau Shepell, which is a human resources and technology company based in Toronto, along with the Globe and Mail.

Here are a few words from the organizers.

"As more workplaces focus on employee health and well-being, it's reassuring to see a wide range of employers represented in the 2019 Employee Recommended Workplaces, including organizations of all sizes, from all corners of Canada and from both the private and public sectors," said Stephen Liptrap, president and chief executive officer, Morneau Shepell. "We are proud to partner with the Globe and Mail to recognize employers who are succeeding in this space and to inspire others to improve their offering in employee wellness."

"It's encouraging to know that employee well-being is being discussed more openly in the workplace and to see an increase in the number of employers making this a priority each year," said Phillip Crawley, publisher and chief executive officer, The Globe and Mail. "We look forward to recognizing the great work of the winners on March 19, 2019, and we are excited to see this program continue growing for the years to come.”

It would be wonderful to find out on March 19 that Intercon Messaging has finished top in our category and are one of the top 12 companies in Canada. But, regardless of what happens, with the support of our clients, our customers and our staff, we feel as if we’re already winners.
