2023: A Year of Achievements and Challenges

Here at Intercon Messaging, we look back on the past year with deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation. As one chapter closes and a new one is introduced, one can't help but marvel at how rapidly the hands of time seem to move… especially as I, or we, all get older.

The year 2023 was marked by many milestones, including numerous accomplishments and a few unexpected challenges. Some of the twists and turns in our journey were self-inflicted, and others were brought on by a series of unfortunate events, such as the 2023 Buck Creek Wildfire that threatened our community and business operations.

For our team and our business, the most significant of these milestones was on April 26, 2023, when we undertook the largest of our 12 business acquisitions to date. With that, we extend our deepest thank you to our new clients for their understanding, patience, and kindness as we navigated the monumental task of transitioning services from one provider to another. In the same breath, we are also grateful for our long-term clients. Your continued support and patience were appreciated as we juggled new clientele and onboarded new staff while working to maintain our commitment to service excellence.

As many of you experienced, heard, or read, a menacing wildfire endangered our community and business operations during that same period. On May 4, 2024, a community-wide evacuation notice was issued, and our team had no choice but to leave our office. However, thanks to our dedicated remote working team and the swift actions of our local leadership team, we were able to maintain service levels while we executed our business continuity plan and set up temporary operations in Edmonton, Alberta. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to our amazing team, industry and trade association partners, volunteer firefighters, and everyone who played a pivotal role in managing and addressing that crisis.

To date, this has been one of the largest incidents to occur to our business. Our operations had to move four times in the thirteen days of being evacuated, and five homes were lost in the fire - a harsh reminder of the severity of the situation. Yet, through it all, we held onto hope and resilience, and our team emerged stronger, ready to face another year. Despite the pressures we experienced between April and October, your belief in us and continued support was a constant source of incentive, which, during that time, was invaluable.

As we bid farewell to this year, we thank each of you for standing by us and making it yet another remarkable chapter in our story. We hope you enjoy a peaceful and joy-filled holiday season. As we return in the new year, we eagerly look forward to deepening our business relationships and continuing our shared journey.

Thank you, and in kindness…

Pat Vos, CEO
