"In case we get disconnected..."
If you need to transfer a caller, make sure to get their contact info just in case the call is disconnected. You've probably heard Call Centre Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) say this phrase "In case we get disconnected..." However this is not the only one reason why you should ask for a callers return phone number. If the call does get disconnected, having a call back number allows you to call that person back and complete the call; or pass the number along to the person they are trying to reach so they can contact them directly. It also allows you an opportunity to add the call back number to your records in case you ever need to look it up in the future.
